The RCS Dragon Boat team will again participate in the annual Washington, DC Dragon Boat Festival on May 17-18 this year in the Anacostia River (http://www.dragonboatdc.com). Our team has won gold and/or silver titles in the race for four consecutive years. Thanks to the thoughtful planning schedule of the school, we hope more parents and families will be able to join the festival and cheer for our team this year!
The RCS Dragon Boat team is an all-volunteer group consisting of primarily RCS parents. The team has participated in the festival annually since 2003. Over the years, our dragon boat team has become one of the most competitive teams in the festival, winning silver & gold medals in the Festival Mixed 250-meter & 500-meter race categories. Last year, the RCS team again demonstrated its excellence in outstanding teamwork, and won first place in both races (see Race Results at: http://www.dragonboatdc.com). Our team has been highly recognized in the annual DC Dragon Boat Festival for Rockville Chinese School. Our success reflects the outstanding teamwork and active participation of RCS parents and families.
Again, we need your support! In the past years, the RCS team has been supported not only by the active participation of many RCS parents & families, but also generous financial contributions from several RCS families and their associated companies. Their generous contributions and support have made the annual event most enjoyable. Donations/contributions go to festival registration, training, and other related expenses (e.g., registration ($1000), team members’ lunch (two days, ≈$500), water and simple refreshments for RCS children and parents at the festival (≈$250), additional training (≈$200-300), and team T-shirts and hats (≈$600, depending on funding availability).
As a tradition, the RCS dragon-boat team welcomes new participants to strengthen the team every year. This year, we will again add a few new enthusiasts to complete our 22-member team. If you enjoy teamwork and have a strong desire for jubilant exultation and cheerful sweat besides your work, please contact Ben Xu (benxu1@mail.nih.gov) ASAP. (Conditions for participation: You must be 18 years of age or above, and commit to all training sessions and two full-day race schedule. Training begins around the end of March.)
