Don’t Be A Victim of Ignorance

Author: David, Jr. Hodgkins

The other day we brought in a couple who was divorced and looking for help in funding their son’s education.  Neither really had much financially and it was going to be difficult for them to fund a college education and it was going to be even worse based on the EFC they came up with.  In the end we SAVED THEM about $70,000 in loans they were going to have to take out based on filling out the FAFSA incorrectly and not having the correct EFC (Expected Family Contribution) for their situation.  It came down to understanding what the colleges are looking for.  Once we established who was claiming the son on their taxes, it was easy to get a more accurate EFC… saving them THOUSANDS!!!! and getting the best financial aid package as possible.  Now they have a  realistic and more affordable college plan.  What’s your EFC?  Is it accurate?  Do you know what the colleges are looking for?  Did you plan your taxes a year in advance? Did you know there is a difference in calculating your EFC from public and private colleges?  Can you afford an extra $2000 a month?

This couple did not know the answer to these questions and it almost cost them. If they had gone ahead with their plan they would have ended up with loans they could not afford to pay back, especially with the Dad close to retirement and the Mom with not much in savings and a small salary.  I am 100% sure that every day hundreds of families are filling out their FAFSA’s incorrectly and coming up with way too high of an EFC.  Don’t be a victim of ignorance.  Admit that you don’t know all there is know about paying for college and become a MEMBER TODAY.  For $95 bucks, you to could SAVE THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS and have access to all our exclusive college planning advice, Ebooks and information.
